In a similar news drought to last year, it has been quite the wait for any information on what's to come. Thankfully, we finally heard something earlier today and, unfortunately, it's not very much.

As has become the norm with updates lately, 5 new Seasonal Items were announced in addition to the return of all the Seasonal items from last year around this time.

Besides these new seasonal items in August, there will also be some additional items as part  of Redd's lottery during the Fireworks Festival that happens every Sunday in August featuring at least 3 different colors of Cotton Candy, Popsicles, and Bubble Tea.

And that's... it for the updates. Nintendo has said that there are still plans for further updates throughout the year, but it's still too early to give any information on them. Here's hoping we'll see some content beyond just new items soon though.
Regardless, 1.11 releases at 10AM JST on July 29th (9PM EST / 6PM PST on July 28th). It seems there is still no update gift again, but unless you plan to time travel, you'll have to wait until August 1st to see any of the new content.

As expected, a brand new update (1.10) has been announced over on the official Animal Crossing twitter and it'll release April 28th in Japan so it should be out the evening of April 27th here in North America– less than 36 hours from now at about 9PM EDT due to it releasing at 10AM in Japan. One thing that stands out is no Update gift is mentioned.

The update information mainly comprises in additions/changes to previous events/seasonal content/items along with a slew of brand new holidays being included for Nook Shopping Seasonal Items as well.

First up is the May Day event starting April 29th until May 7th. Like last year, you will get a single ticket to go to a special island maze and it seems to be a different one from last years.

International Museum Day also makes a return from May 18th to May 31st with its Stamp Rally, now including the Art Galley.

Wedding Season will also return with Reese and Cyrus for June, but new wedding items won't be exclusive to them– The Nook Shopping Catalog and Able Sisters will also be getting into the season with new items for sale.

Finally, as you can also see in the above picture, more seasonal items will be introduced in the Nook Shopping Catalog:

-Children's Day (April 28th-May 5th)

-Cheese Rolling Festival (May 22nd-May 31st)

At the bottom of the Japanese site is a huge list of all upcoming Seasonals for the Spring and early Summer seasons with additional new Seasonal Items for events that were already celebrated. Below are a list of the brand new items this time around in addition to the Children's Day and Cheese Rolling items.

• Mother's Day (May 1st-31st) - Carnations! At the moment, we're expecting this to be an item like the Bouquets for Valentine's Day and not a new flower, but maybe we'll be surprised!
• Wedding Season (June 1st-30th) - Four new items will be handed out this way: Nuptial Bell*, Nuptial ring pillow*, Nuptial Doorplate*, and a Flower-Petal Basket.
• Father's Day (June 1st-30th) - Thank you Dad Apron
• Dragon Boat Festival (June 5th-14th) - Festival zongi and Surichwi tteok
• Marine Day (July 8th-22nd) - Ship-wheel Doorplate
• Bastille Day (July 10th-20th) - Phrygian cap*

* Any items marked with a * will have different color variants each day.

Seasonals released last year are all returning at their respective dates.

It's really been a while, hasn't it? Animal Crossing: New Horizons had its Anniversary last month and any day now, we'll likely have a new update in store, so it feels like the perfect time to review over what has released since last Summer between just how much has been added and shortly after the Summer update is when a lot of people ended up dropping off with the game, so if you haven't played for a while or just want to wrap your head around everything that has happened in New Horizons since Summer before whatever comes next, this post is for you!

The Fall Update

This update released September 30th and brought back Halloween along with adding various new features such as being able to grow Pumpkins and additional content with 10 new DIYs, new Pumpkin-themed furniture, 2 new Reactions, new skin and eye colors, and new Halloween-themed costumes along with us continuing to get new Seasonal Items.

On a more minor scale, the update also added some Quality of Life adjustments for Dream Suite and the Nook Link app.

The Winter Update

Finishing out the year, we got an update on November 18th that added back in Turkey Day (previously the Harvest Festival) and Toy Day as Events along with even more items and some of my personal favorites with various new "Toy" items such as this Puppy.

In addition to adorable new items and clothing, we also got even more reactions, giving us the ability to do some of the things we've seen our Villagers do such as sitting down (as pictured above) and brand new hairstyles as well. I'm hoping both of these types of things could be a continued trend. We also got a new Pocket Camp collaboration item along with new seasonal items continuing to be added plus a bit of new content for those in the Southern Hemisphere who would be dealing with the Summer items right now such as a new Summer Solstice item and a new Summer Shell DIY. There was also a great update adding 800 more storage slots (So going from 1,600 to 2,400) if you have fully paid off your house for 500,000 Bells. Honestly, I can already use more storage.

The January Update

January 28th brought us the return of Festivale in addition to even more Nook Shopping Seasonal Items. While most of the new content was Festivale themed, the Mermaid Fence was finally released (apparently there had been a bug that prevented it from being rewarded), and some of the seasonal item highlights were for Setsubun ("Bean Day") including the popular beans from New Leaf, despite some unfortunate adjustments, Lunar New Year, and Valentine's Day chocolates and roses.

There was also the return of the Resetti Model so even if he may not be fully in-game, it's something.

Of course, in some ways, this update almost felt like the calm before the storm after everything that happened in March.

The Late February/March Updates

While we were first told about the Mario items releasing in March back in Fall, the trailer during the Nintendo Direct for all the items that would be releasing in it was still a surprise.

Even those who weren't particularly looking forward to the Mario items still found some excitement over the brand new Pipe item that let you teleport between areas of your Island.

In addition, we also received new Seasonal items for Hina-matsuri (Girls Day), Pi Day, and Shamrock Day (including a new DIY).

But while the 1.8 update with all the Mario items alone felt a bit overwhelming with over 30 items between furniture and clothing, 1.9 was just around the corner with a huge Twitter thread from Isabelle letting us know just what to expect.

The biggest surprise was confirmation of the Sanrio Cards being re-released overseas and FINALLY getting a release here in North America. It also meant the Sanrio Villagers would finally be able to be imported ingame as well, bringing all their items from New Leaf with them and a few new things as well.

In addition to all the Sanrio news (with over 60 new items between them), we also got a ne "Custom Design Pro Editor +" that could be purchased from the Nook Miles Shop that added 50 more slots to both Normal and Pro Custom Designs AND the ability to create custom umbrellas, handheld flags, photo stands, and uchiwa (hand fans)! You could also get the Custom Designs Portal to be able to access the Portal you would normally need to go into Able Sisters for. Have an idea and want to search, but it's after 9PM? Now you can just do it from your phone!

More Seasonal items were also added from April Fools Day to Prom themed. Meanwhile, Bunny Day would be returning and received some adjustments such as a shorter length time (only a week) and the newest Bunny Day items were just sold through Nooks Cranny. And honestly, they're pretty cute.

Nook Link received an update as well adding the ability to earn Nook Points each day that could be redeemed for new items through the app.

Nintendo also released a special Island Tour site where you could put together your own Island Tour or Posters using videos recorded and/or pictures taken from your Switch.

With just the Prom items left in the Seasonal Shop now (April Fools Day, Nature Day, and Earth Day have all passed) and May Day's return coming, along with the fact that the next update should be 2.0, it's hard not to wonder what could be next and when we may find out, but hopefully this at least catches you up on what you may have missed!

• A new feature allows you to sleep in a bed and meet Luna. You can upload a dream of your island via the internet or visit other uploaded dream islands.
• New features have been added to the Custom Designs Portal. You can now search by design name or type. You can now create a list of favorite creators.
• A new feature has been added for backing up save data to Nintendo’s servers via the internet. You can use backed up save data with the island backup restoration service if your Nintendo Switch system is lost or broken.
• You must be a member of Nintendo Switch Online and enable backups within Animal Crossing: New Horizons to use this new feature.
• Save data cannot be restored at a customer’s discretionary timing. If your system is broken, you must contact Nintendo Support to start a repair request. If you have lost your system, you must contact Nintendo Support.
• This feature does not allow save data (island data) to be transferred to a different system. We currently plan on adding a save data transfer feature within 2020. Information on the feature and timing will be announced at a future time.

Earlier this week I got the chance to speak with Mayor Mori, a fantastic Animal Crossing YouTube content creator. With over 70,000 subscribers at the time of writing, Mayor Mori showcases different aspects of the Animal Crossing community, as well as news & rumors as they're revealed.

Theo:

With over 70,000 subscribers it's hard to think anyone in the Animal Crossing community wouldn't already know your name, but for anyone clicking this that doesn't know you, can you introduce yourself?

Mayor Mori:

Sure. First of all, thank you so much for inviting me for this interview.
I’m already a fan of the work your team are doing, so it’s was an exciting opportunity for me.
So, my name is Mayor Mori, I’m just an extremely passionate fan of Animal Crossing and have been playing the game since the original.
I also adore the amazing Animal Crossing community and spend a lot of my time making videos about the franchise on my YouTube channel. You can also find me on most socials @MayorMori.

Theo:

We completely agree with the Animal Crossing community being amazing which leads directly to our next question: What would you say your favorite thing about the community is? What about the least favorite?

Mayor Mori:

That’s a really great question, but a difficult one because the community has so many fantastic qualities. I would say my absolute favourite is seeing everyone helping each other out and just spreading such a positive energy amongst each other.
I’m not really sure what I would say my least favourite thing about the Animal Crossing community is. I guess it’s on the rare occasion gate-keeping pops up and people are made to feel bad when they play a game differently to others. But it’s very rare to see. The community is so wholesome and positive.

Theo:

Yeah, for the most part the community does a great job at weeding out bad behavior as well, I've noticed. It really is great seeing how everyone comes together & supports each other. You mentioned that you've been playing since the first game, what originally drew you to the series?

Mayor Mori:

Well honestly, I stumbled across the game online and because it had great reviews I imported it out of curiosity. It wasn’t out in England at the time.
After only a few gaming sessions I just fell in love with the charm of the characters and the quest of completing a furniture set. Even back then, the attention to detail was so quirky and adorable. I’d never played anything like it before and have been hooked ever since.

Theo:

I remember learning about it in Nintendo Power and feeling that exact same curiosity, there really wasn't anything like it at the time. Who was your favorite villager back then? Are they still your favorite?

Mayor Mori:

My favourite back then was probably Gonzo. He’s a cranky koala and we definitely had a love-hate relationship. I loved him and he hated me!
But no matter how grumpy he was, or what he complained about, he never moved away and you could tell he secretly enjoyed our town!
I would say he’s still a favourite yes.

Theo:

Gonzo is one I don't see mentioned often, I even had to look them up. I'm surprised they don't get more attention! Alright, one more Animal Crossing question: You've shown a lot of what New Horizons has to offer in your videos, and your recent forced-perspective secret beach area was very well done. What features would you love to see implemented? If Nintendo came to you and offered one idea to be included in the next patch, what would you add?

Mayor Mori:

Yeah, I try to show off as much as the game as possible whilst still keeping videos relevant and somewhat news related.
In terms of features, personally I would love for some of the original features to return from previous iterations of Animal Crossing.
Most notably Gyroids. They were always fascinating to me and offered another goal in the game in terms of collecting. Of course they’re quite recognisable to the franchise now too, so I was surprised not to see them when New Horizons released. I am hoping we see them in a future update though, along with many other fan-favourite features such as the diving mechanic and the Roost.

Theo:

It feels weird that Gyroids aren't around, especially when there's still traces of them around, I know I noticed one on Rover's Suitcase. I don't want to take up too much time, so one last question! When you're not working on content for videos, what other hobbies do you have? Any other games you've been playing?

Mayor Mori:

That's a good question! I don't seem to have too much free-time these days, but I do play other games when I can, including Call of Duty. I'm a big Warzone and Battle Royale fan, so I really enjoy that too. However, outside of playing video games and creating content for youtube I mostly spend time with my family, which quite regularly involves binge-watching things on Netflix or Youtube.
I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank you again for inviting me for this interview and of course for all your hard work and bringing super easy-to-use tools to the Animal Crossing community.

In an interview with CNET, director Aya Kyogoku was asked about the future of New Horizons, and what's coming down the pipeline. Kyogoku states that there's lots of stuff in the works, and they're looking to keep players engaged for years to come.

We want to make sure that in two years or three years down the road, players will still continue to find new surprises in the game. So we hope to create an update that you can do that with.

A series of free updates* to the Animal Crossing: New Horizons game is bringing some special seasonal events, inviting island goers to experience new faces visiting the island, blossoming flora, beautiful works of art and an expanded museum. These free updates and others later in the year will add new experiences to the game that players will be able to enjoy for a long time.

Available starting on April 23, this new update adds the following characters, features and limited-time events to the game:

• Leif’s Garden Shop – Nature-loving Leif will regularly visit players’ islands to sell his flourishing assortment of foliage, including shrubs and flower seeds. These decorative items will help make any island paradise a little greener.
• Jolly Redd’s Treasure Trawler – After downloading the free update, Jolly Redd will occasionally show up in his boat to sell in-game art, as well as furniture with unique colors. Like in previous Animal Crossing games, players will have to figure out which art pieces are real and which are fake. After purchasing genuine art, players can donate it to the island museum to open an art gallery, which will display all types of donated pieces, from paintings to sculptures.
• Nature Day (April 23-May 4) – During the Nature Day period, special Nook Miles challenges will be available that focus on nature-inspired goals, such as planting trees and watering flowers.
• May Day Tour (May 1-7) – In the first week of May, players can use a one-time May Day Ticket at the island airport to head out on a limited-time tour to an island that looks different than the usual mystery island tours. A special visitor who looks familiar might also be there…
• International Museum Day (May 18-31) – To celebrate International Museum Day, players can take part in a Stamp Rally. After receiving a special stamp card, players can enjoy viewing fish, insects and fossils while collecting stamps at the various museum exhibits to earn an in-game reward.
• Wedding Season (June 1-30) – During a nuptial-themed June, players can visit Harvey’s island to meet the married couple Reese and Cyrus, as well as help arrange and take anniversary photos with them in the wedding-picture studio. Players will get wedding-themed items as a token of their gratitude.
